Job Description:
STS Aviation Services is actively seeking an experienced Safety Management Systems (SMS) Manager to join our UK team in Birmingham. As a key player in our rapidly expanding business, you’ll ensure compliance with regulatory standards while driving a culture of safety excellence across our operations.   • Develop and Document SMS: Lead the development of operational risk and safety risk management processes by documenting the Safety Management System.
  • Identify and Address Risks: Assess areas of compliance risk and business vulnerabilities, implementing corrective action plans to address potential threats.
  • Incident Investigation: Investigate incidents to establish root causes, assign corrective actions, and ensure resolution through root cause analysis.
  • Policy Development: Maintain and develop company policies in relation to compliance assurance and SMS.
  • Reporting and Analysis: Report daily safety performance metrics to the Head of Safety & Compliance, proactively identifying risks and areas for improvement.
  • Training and Education: Create training materials and deliver engaging training sessions on SMS compliance, human factors, and safety principles.
  • Continuous Improvement: Coordinate site reporting and investigation processes to drive the close-out of improvement actions in accordance with SMS requirements.
  • Readiness Assessments: Regularly assess the organization’s state of readiness for audits and compliance reviews.
Skills and Experience
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of CAA & EASA Part 145 and SMS regulations.
  • Safety Expertise: Strong grasp of aviation safety principles, risk management practices, and behavior-based safety (human factors).
  • Investigative Experience: Lead investigator training and familiarity with the FAIR 3 process.
  • Training Aptitude: Proven ability to develop and deliver effective safety training and procedures.
  • Communication Skills: Strong reporting and analytical skills, with the ability to effectively communicate risks and corrective actions.
  • Proactive Problem-Solving: Ability to identify risks and implement strategies to mitigate them.
