Job Description:

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Lead, Avionics performs avionics maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and modifications for customer aircraft. He/she uses sound judgment and technical aptitude to make decisions regarding maintenance, sequence and techniques, troubleshooting, and discrepancy resolution. The Lead, Avionics is technically competent, works independently, and is expected to be able to accomplish the vast majority of his/her duties with minimal supervision. He/she coaches and oversees the activities of less senior employees in the department, providing guidance and instruction on proper procedures and techniques. As customers are on site at the facilities, professional appearance and communication skills are required in order to create a positive and lasting professional relationship.

  • Responsible for monitoring and assigning work assignments. Provides oversight, guidance, and assistance to less senior employees in the department in regard to proper procedures and techniques.
  • Provides technical guidance to technicians on aircraft maintenance, and/or engine configurations, and/or modification projects, including service bulletins, directives and enhancements. Must be up-to-date on scope of required maintenance/projects for customers and coordinates efforts to ensure a timely turnaround.
  • In conjunction with the crew chief, pre-plans work scopes on aircraft, and/or modifications including developing action plans, pre-ordering parts, organization of engineering, tooling and manpower.
  • Orders and returns parts as required. Ensures all scrap parts and repairable parts are returned to their respective areas on a daily basis in accordance with the Inspection Procedure Manual.
  • Responsible for all paperwork from the beginning of the job to completion. Daily job cards are to be signed-off and returned to the Production Support Department. Daily input into the computer system is required.
  • Informs Supervisor of problems and work status so that communications with the customers are timely and complete.
  • Performs final aircraft walk around to ensure readiness for departure. Reviews workbook for sign-offs and parts issues prior to closing in the inspection department.
  • Responsible for working with the Inspection department to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Assures that crew members are well trained on assigned aircraft, system, and/or modification requirements. Responsible for On-the-Job Training of all technicians assigned during the course of the job. Works cooperatively with other Crew Chiefs or shops to assure cross-training on other aircraft and/or systems.
  • Performs maintenance and installation work as required to assure an on-time departure and customer satisfaction.
  • Supports and adheres to safety, environmental and general housekeeping policies. Is proactive in the area of safety; promotes safe work habits to the crew, monitors the work environment for safety hazards and takes steps to address/remove hazards.
  • Maintains constant communication with crew chief regarding their requirements and maintenance progress.
  • Interprets and performs complex avionics troubleshooting, using all available resources, including manufacturer’s field engineers.
  • Accomplishes airframe inspections. Troubleshoots and repairs sophisticated avionics systems.
  • Coordinates line maintenance, engineering, sheet metal, inspection, and outside vendors during installations. Monitors and controls costs to positively impact profitability.
  • Coordinates maintenance and post-installation test flights, when necessary.
  • Maintains the standards of test equipment and technical publications in the Avionics Department to comply with FAA regulations.
  • Works fair share of overtime and travels to customer locations or other facilities as required.
  • Responsible for knowing, understanding, following, promoting and continuously improving company policies and procedures.
  • May perform other duties as required by the department.

REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • FCC license and A&P license preferred.
  • Formal avionics systems education and electronics training.
  • Five years experience in electronics and/or avionics in the aviation industry.
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds, walk, bend, stretch, and climb ladders.
  • Must be able to bend, climb, crawl, fit into confined spaces to perform job.
  • Must have the ability to think clearly, speak intelligibly on the telephone and in person.
  • Must have the ability to manipulate equipment of all sizes, tools, computer keyboards, and telephones.
  • Must be able to see to read and visually inspect.
