Business Development Manager

The Role
As a Business Development Manager, you’ll be instrumental in supporting the identification and evaluation of new licensing/acquisition opportunities that support Ontic’s growth strategy, including adjacent spanets, where Ontic’s unique offering can be successfully deployed. Working closely with the global Business Development team and internal functional stakeholders, you’ll help convert opportunities into deliverable products and services that strengthen Ontic’s presence and performance in applicable spanets.
This is a highly collaborative and often outward-facing role, requiring strong relationship-building skills, commercial acumen, and the ability to influence at all levels. You’ll support the interface with key internal and external partners, ensuring high satisfaction levels while helping to guide negotiations, shaping business plans, and driving growth in line with company goals.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Supporting the development of new business aligned to the company strategy.
- Working with the BD team to identify, evaluate product licensing/acquisition opportunities, using the full capability of the business creatively and effectively.
- Contributing to strategies to drive focus and results.
- Supporting the BD team in maintaining regular engagement with licensors to ensure high satisfaction and early visibility of opportunities or risks.
- Gathering spanet, competitor and licensor intelligence to inform strategic decision-making.
- Preparing business plans and cases to support new opportunities, providing insight across commercial, technical and financial considerations.
- Supporting commercial negotiations, ensuring balanced risk and reward.
- Developing and delivering compelling proposals to win new business.
- Ensuring accurate contractual documentation and database records are maintained.
- Use CRM tools to track and help deliver new projects effectively.
- Supporting industry trade shows and networking events as required.
About You
You’ll bring a strong track record in aerospace business development, sales or licensing, ideally with experience in MoD (UK), DoD (US), OEM, or afterspanet environments. You’ll be commercially astute, persuasive, and capable of shaping solutions that deliver value for both Ontic and its Partners.
You’ll also have:
- Experience in business development or a directly related field.
- Strong negotiation skills and the ability to influence internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- A solid understanding of P&L, cash flow and commercial modelling.
- Technical appreciation of aerospace products and systems (advantageous).
- A degree in Business, Engineering or equivalent experience.
This role requires regular global travel, sometimes at short notice.
