Purpose and Scope:
Oversees the day-to-day operations of installing, maintaining and repairing all doors and components, automatic entrance doors and components, locks, locking devices, cipher locks, panic hardware, door closers, windows and components, siding and trim, framing, roofing systems; flashing, curb and gutter systems, walls and partitions components, interior and exterior carpentry, masonry, metal and fabric repair/fabrication work, welding support, to include oxy/acetylene cutting, duct systems, ceiling systems, floors, corrosion control, remodeling/refurbishing existing facilities, protective coatings, sealants, epoxies, glues, demolition, forms for concrete work, slab on grade and other foundations, concrete placement and finishing within and butting up to facilities, shoring; painting, and fencing. This position is in support of the Air Force Contract Augmentation Program (AFCAP) and is located at Ascension Island Auxiliary Airfield (AAAF).
Essential Responsibilities:
- Supervise the operation, inspection, maintaining and repairing structural components in all prescribed facilities and RPIE systems, both interior and exterior and other equipment installed in or on the facilities.
- Supervise and lead a structures team of personnel.
- Develop an inspection and maintenance program for designated fixed and semi-fixed antenna structures (i.e. communications, bore sight, and Lightning Protection System (LPS).
- Develop procedures covering key control that shall be included in the Quality Control Plan.
- Develop a Crane and Tower Management Plan for COR review and approval.
- Supervise the treatment of minor and surface corrosion during preventive maintenance activities for facilities, equipment, infrastructure (including antenna structures), and system components.
- Conduct heavy metal sampling and sample analysis before facility renovation or demolition and maintain a database of sample results.
- Sample, analyze, and abate asbestos as necessary in support of maintenance, mission requirements, and construction contracts IAW industry standards and practices, OSHA, UFGS 01 57 19, & EPA requirements and IAW the Ascension Island Asbestos Management Plan.
- Performs all other position-related duties as assigned or requested by the Base Operation Infrastructure Support (CE Operations) Lead.
Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Seven (7) years’ experience performing repairs, modifications, and preventative maintenance on facility equipment, fixtures, and systems.
- Must have four (4) years of supervisory experience in related fields.
- Ability to read blueprints and schematics and estimate costs.
- Possess well-rounded general knowledge of plumbing, electrical and HVAC trades to communicate effectively with technicians.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
- Must be a USN to fill this position.
- Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain requirements for duration of deployment.
- Prior overseas government contracting experience preferred.
- Ability to exercise discretion and make effective decisions.
- Solid communications skills, strong interpersonal skills.
- Strong ability to work and lead as a member of a diverse, dynamic team.
- Outstanding problem-solving skills and sound judgment.
- Possess a valid state issued driver’s license and passport.
- Must possess planning/organizing skills and must be able to work under deadlines.
Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:
- Able to stand for long periods of time such as eight (8) to ten (10) hours, bend, kneel, and reach to store/retrieve supplies.
- Basic physical requirements include walking, bending, stooping, stretching, climbing, running, and lifting up to 70 pounds.
- Frequent exposure to aircraft operations with extreme temperatures and high noise.
- Constant sitting with occasional use of computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness,
- Must possess planning/organizing skills and must be able to work under deadlines.
- Some positions involve work in environments (e.g., shipboard, labs, outside locations, etc.) where mechanical equipment, etc. is installed, tested, analyzed/monitored, operated, and/or maintained.
