Job Description:

Aircraft Mechanic 1, performs aircraft maintenance to include removal, replacement, repair, and modification of aircraft and/or aircraft systems and components.  Work is monitored and inspected upon completion. Applies technical knowledge and experience to repair aircraft discrepancies.  Must be able to read, write, and interpret instructions, technical manuals and/or directives necessary for the accomplishment of job assignment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs tasks as assigned /directed by Supervisor, Leadman, or Crew Leader in accordance with instructions, applicable technical data, manuals, and directives.
  • Ensures that all aircraft parts/components removed from an aircraft are properly documented utilizing computerized operating system or other media identified in applicable departmental maintenance instructions, ensuring repairable, serviceable, or unserviceable parts are properly handled, labelled, and stored.
  • Utilize manufacturers’ maintenance manuals, service instructions, engineering directives, maintenance requirement cards, technical directives, schematics, drawings, blueprints, charts, and other applicable publications to replace, repair, test, and modify assigned systems.
  • Comply with and follow established standards of Workmanship, Safety, Quality, and Production.
  • Assist in the adjustment, repair, and/or replacement of aircraft systems and aircraft accessories under supervision of higher classification.
  • Performs miscellaneous duties servicing aircraft hydraulic, pneumatic, fuel, and oxygen systems, including cleaning screens and filters, and proper greasing and lubrication of aircraft. 
  • Assists in aircraft inventory, acceptance, and transfer inspections.
  • Make recommendations to management to improve productivity, increase efficiencies, and/or cut costs.
  • Operates portable fire fighting equipment.
  • Required to be Plane Captain certified.
  • May be required to be Turn Up qualified.
  • May be required to perform collateral duty inspection assignments limited to the inspection of aircraft engine rinses and washes.
  • Required to be Aircraft Jacking and Hoisting qualified.
  • Comply with all applicable programs, including Safety, Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Hazardous Communications, Corrosion Control, Hydraulic Contamination, Egress Familiarization, and Tool Control.
  • Participates in the proper maintenance and cleanliness of spaces and facilities.
  • Work harmoniously with other employees promoting teamwork and cooperation.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

CLASSIFICATION QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE:   

Possess knowledge/expertise in Organizational Aircraft Maintenance.

Demonstrate knowledge of applicable technical manuals, service bulletins, maintenance manuals, maintenance forms, Maintenance Checklists, and continuous inspection procedures. 

Must be able to read, write, understand, and communicate in the English language and follow verbal and written instruction.

EDUCATION/LICENSES:  

  • Graduation from high school or GED required.
  • Satisfactory completion of U.S. Armed Forces aircraft mechanic courses and/or F.A.A. Airframe and Powerplant technical school preferred.
  • Valid state driver’s license required.
  • Must be able to pass any Government and/or Company licensing/qualification requirements for the position.

EXPERIENCE:  

  • Must have two years of experience in an aircraft maintenance occupational field.
  • Must be familiar with aircraft systems, tools, drawings, schematics, and normal safety requirements.
  • Must have experience in the detection, treatment, and prevention of corrosion.

EQUIPMENT OPERATED:

  • Aircraft ground servicing equipment including vehicles, tugs, tractors, servicing carts, aircraft jacks and hoists, test equipment, hand tools, and power tools.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:  

  • Requires sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods of time. 
  • Requires frequent climbing, bending, stooping, squatting, crawling, crouching, kneeling, lifting, carrying, balancing, and reaching above shoulder level, pushing, or pulling weight up to 70 pounds. 
  • Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity. 
  • Must have close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. 
  • Requires hearing to normal range. 
  • May require the use of a respirator.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Requires shift work and a diversity of working conditions that range from a standard shop/hangar type environment, where there may be no physical discomfort, to an environment where inclement weather may subject to individual severe changes in temperature, direct sun, wind, rain, etc.
  • May be required to work in areas where noise hazards are prevalent. 

POTENTIAL HAZARDS:

Exposure to high-intensity noise levels, extreme temperature changes, materials identified on Safety Data Sheets, and working on or around aircraft and machinery.

WORK LOCATION:

Aircraft maintenance shops, hangars, and flightline. 

May be required to travel in support of cross-country rescue and detachments of unknown duration.
