Your day-to-day / What we are expecting from you / Your responsibilities
Responsible for setting, operating and programming Citizen sliding head machines, with a focus on maximizing safety, quality, and output efficiency. Performs first-off inspections, maintains strict in-process quality control, and ensures accurate production data documentation.
Ensure that any health and safety guidelines are followed in accordance with the EHS organisational arrangements roles and responsibilities, including maintaining (and improving were possible) 5S standards and ensuring the correct PPE is worn.
Following works orders (routing) instructions.
Interpret technical drawings
Selection of and loading CNC programs
Write and edit CNC programs using G-codes to create instructions for the machine
Program optimisation – cut speeds, feeds to minimise material waste
Full machine set up – including guide bushings, collets and work holding fixtures
Training of semi-skilled setters/operators
General tidiness and good housekeeping
Complete works orders in accordance with Kanban system ensuring any issues (e.g. material availability, quality issues, etc.) are reported immediately to line manager.
Program in cycle deburring.
Supervising machines during operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusting offsets or tool speeds to optimise performance
Recording output and scrap accurately.
Performing first-off component approvals and continuous in-process inspections using precision tools like micrometers, calipers and verniers to ensure parts meet tight tolerances
Ensuring tooling sheets and programs are kept up to date.
Able to identify alternative tooling solutions and raise ideas with cell leader.
Involvement in the High Performing Team (HPT).
Who we are looking for
Experience in setting and operating multi-axis CNC machines, with a specific focus on sliding head lathes and CNC Grinders.
Proven ability to write and edit multi-axis G-code machines
Ability to read, interpret, and edit G-code (ideally Fanuc) to make necessary offset and program adjustments
Flexible to support other departments as required.
Proficiency in using precision measuring equipment (micrometers, verniers, shadow graphs) to inspect parts against tight tolerances
Ideally, you will also have
The ability to logically diagnose production issues
Micron level accuracy – working with high volume achieving 0.02mm
Responding effectively to changes in the production schedule or switching between machine types (lathes to grinders) with minimal disruption
Flexibility – willingness to work in a fast paced environment and handle multiple machines simultaneously
