The Senior Fleet Engineer – Avionics role is part of our Technical Operations Department, reporting to the Director, Engineering and Technical Services, who ensure our people and guests operate and travel on a safe and reliable fleet.
In this role, you are responsible for research, planning, implementing and supporting technical changes to avionics and e-enabled systems. These changes consist of airframe and component service bulletins, service letters, major and minor modifications and other changes made to the aircraft and aeronautical products. You will be responsible for program compliance, modification status reporting and providing engineering assistance to other teams within Technical Operations and WestJet.
Key Responsibilities:
The Senior Fleet Engineer – Avionics Projects is accountable for delivering complex avionics and e-enabled projects that meet regulatory compliance and operational needs.
Responsible for:
- Definition and selection of avionics and software configurations of new aircraft entering WestJet fleet with input from internal stakeholders.
- Review and evaluation of changes to avionics configuration for used aircraft entering WestJet fleet for regulatory compliance and operational requirements.
- Support new and used aircraft deliveries and inputs during Production/MRO activities through to final technical acceptance.
- Review and implementation of OEM service data (AD/SB/SL) for ATAs 22, 23, 24, 31, 34, 42, 45 and 46.
- Provide technical support to In-Service Engineering for issues relating to configuration changes
- Provide technical assistance to Procurement for Request for Proposals (RFP), Contracts, and Statement of Works (SOW) for major supplier contracts
- Implement technical changes to aircraft configuration through the development and issuance of Engineering Controls and Task Cards
- Investigate long term service issues and evaluate modification requests and provide solutions or recommendations
- Attend industry conferences and keeping up-to-date on industry best practices and recommendations
- Provide engineering support to all other internal stakeholders as required.
Requirements:
- Engineering degree or Aircraft Maintenance License (M or E)
- 5 years of relevant experience. Airline experience considered an asset.
- Strong technical knowledge in avionics systems and aircraft software.
- Ability to build strong and effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to manage multiple projects to successful completion in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with Boeing 737 and 787 considered an asset.
- Experience with TRAX/eMRO considered an asset.
