Boeing Brazil Engineering Center is looking for a Senior Flight Controls Engineer, reporting to the Flight Control Manager, working out of the Sao Jose Dos Campos, Brazil office.
Senior Flight Controls Engineer will join the Flight Control System team in Brazil supporting various Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) programs during development, certification and sustaining phases including 787, 737MAX, 777-9 and future programs.
This role requires technical knowledge of flight controls function, system development, and integration with other airplane teams such as Aero Stability and Control, Structures, Loads, Aircraft Level Safety, Hydraulic power, Avionics, Electrical Power System, etc. The Brazil team is responsible for flight control system design, development, integration, and verification in conjunction with US BCA flight control teams based in Seattle area. Responsibilities include system architecture development with trade studies, system level requirements development and allocation (including plans to validate and verify), system modeling and performance analysis (timing, accuracy, errors, tolerances, synchronization), system safety analysis (Failure Hazard Analysis, Failures Modes and Effects Analysis, Fault Tree Analysis), design and modeling of system monitors and control functions, functional integration, and system level testing on an Integrated Test Vehicle and Flight Testing on aircraft prototypes. Preferred candidates will have demonstrated success in working complex aircraft system developments, understanding of overall airplane and interfacing team needs, and a strong aptitude & desire to work with diverse teammates around the world towards a common aviation goal.
Position Responsibilities:
Resolve airplane level functional decomposition requirements into system level requirements and resolve system level requirements into component requirements with time and cost-efficient validation methods
Develop system and subsystem architecture alternatives to meet requirements and objectives
Participate in system level testing, including test execution at integrated test vehicle or rig environment, test analysis and test report authoring; test failure analysis; and test failure mitigation.
Participate in system, component and detail certification efforts, including: creation of required certification artifacts, such as, system safety analysis, system descriptions, inspection reports, system testing reports, etc.
Develop Functional Decomposition analysis activities including system functional modeling and model coverage analysis.
Support Flight Controls System Safety Analyses including fault-tree review and development, FMEA (Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) review and development, CMA (Common Mode Analysis) and interface with Aircraft Level Safety Engineering
Generally, these activities require successful cross-functional coordination within and outside of Boeing including with: avionics, hydromechanical systems, crew-ops, airplane level safety, aerodynamics, supply chain management, systems software, suppliers, airline customers, and regulatory agencies
Most of activities are expected to take place at Boeing Brazil facilities however the selected engineer may eventually be required to perform activities on site at US Boeing facilities (e.g. Laboratory Testing, Flight Testing, Design Review meetings, etc).
This position is hybrid. This means that the selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options. This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change in the future.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Must have existing rights to work in Brazil
Proficient in both verbal and written communications skills in the English Language
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited course of study in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Control and Automation Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering
Must be registered or eligible to register with the Engineering and Agronomy Regional Council (Conselho Regional de Engenharia e Agronomia - CREA)
In depth experience with aircraft systems development
Preferred Qualifications (Education/Experience):
Experience with Flight Controls System
Experience with Systems Safety Analysis
Experience with CAFTA (Computer Assisted Fault-Tree Analysis) Tool
Experience with aeronautical systems development following ARP4754 and ARP4761 standard
Experience with systems testing at laboratory or rig environment
Experience using requirement management tools such as IBM Rational DOORS
Experience with MBE (Model Based Engineering)
Experience with Matlab/Simulink tool for modeling and simulation
Experience working with cross functional teams
