Dowty Propellers is a world-leading manufacturer of integrated propeller systems (its products are used in applications that range from regional airliners and military airlifters to marine hovercrafts). We are interested in finding candidates who will actively identify cost reduction improvements to existing hardware through the GE Material Cost Productivity (MCP) process and provide estimating and design to cost (DTC) support for bid proposals and new projects. Candidates will be responsible for MCP budgets and design to cost targets, working on your own initiative you will be expected to scope, execute, review, and manage individual cost out projects. She/ he will challenge internal processes for engineering, testing, manufacturing, sourcing and will interact with suppliers. Cost and Value Analysis Engineer will report progress of the cost-out activities to Dowty Senior Engineering Project Manager.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

Value Engineering

  • Provide a cost out management function for MCP (Material Cost Productivity) activities.
  • Proactively identify with supply chain, sourcing & engineering opportunities for cost reduction on existing hardware.
  • Run cost out programmes, progress, monitor & report out.

Design to Cost (DTC)

  • Generate BOM – baseline against estimate.
  • Support bid & proposal to ensure accurate recuring cost estimates for equipment through tollgate process.
  • Support design trade studies.
  • Work with supply chain, sourcing & engineering to ensure item “Should Cost” values are accurately estimated.
  • Manage current recurring cost estimates against baseline.
  • Identify new materials and technologies to ensure continued competitiveness of products.

Monitor & Control

  • Work with existing business systems to generate appropriate metrics to monitor and control both MCP and DTC processes.
  • Provide report outs as required within the normal project reporting rhythm.
  • Document technical and business data consistently with GE Aerospace/Dowty Propellers policies and procedures.

General

  • Able to support multiple project teams.
  • Work cross functionally within the business to develop cost out solutions.
  • Operate as a team member and leader as required.
  • Continuously develop product and process knowledge.
  • Provide timely and clear communication on significant issues.
  • Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews in person or remotely.

Required Qualifications

  • BSc/MSc in Engineering (or Equivalent).
  • Demonstrated working experience in value analysis techniques and management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Cost-Out processes and tools (aPriori for should – cost analysis)
  • Knowledge of industrial manufacturing processes and techniques
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multi-functional projects, in a matrixed organization.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work in a dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills (good English: reading, speaking, and writing).
  • Ability to work with global team members across cultural boundaries.
  • Target oriented, responsible, passion to learn, open mind, strong motivation.
  • Ability and availability to travel (UK, but not limited to).
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse and resolve problems.
  • Proficient in usage of all MS Office applications.

Desired Characteristics

  • Demonstrated professional CAD software usage (Catia V5 preferred).
  • Experienced in continuous improvements and able facilitate lean and six sigma projects.
  • Financial awareness.
  • Working knowledge of project risk assessment and mitigation.
  • Awareness of aerospace certification and qualification requirements (e.g., propeller certification requirements CS-P, 14 CFR Part 35)
