Position Summary
The Application Engineer – Mobile Hydraulics is responsible for delivering optimized hydraulic and electro-hydraulic system solutions for off-highway mobile equipment by leveraging Parker Hannifin’s comprehensive motion and control technologies.
This role acts as a technical bridge between OEM customers, sales, and Parker’s global engineering teams, ensuring that customer performance requirements are converted into reliable, efficient, and cost-effective system designs. The position demands strong hands-on hydraulics expertise, customer engagement skills, and the ability to influence design decisions at the machine architecture level.
Responsibilities
1. Work closely with OEM customers to understand machine functions, duty cycles, and performance requirements.2.Design and engineer mobile hydraulic and electro-hydraulic systems using Parker Hannifin products.3.Develop hydraulic system architectures including load sensing, closed center, flow sharing circuits etc.4.Select and size pumps, motors, valves, cylinders, hoses, filters, and related components.5.Perform hydraulic calculations for flow, pressure, power, efficiency, and thermal performance.6.Prepare hydraulic schematics, layouts, bills of materials, and technical documentation.7.Optimize systems for energy efficiency, controllability, noise reduction, and reliability.8.Support RFQs and techno-commercial proposals by providing technical solutions and justifications.9.Function as the technical interface between customers, sales teams, and internal engineering functions.10.Support prototype builds, system testing, and machine commissioning at customer sites.11.Analyze test, field data, and recommend design improvements or corrective actions.12.Troubleshoot hydraulic and electro-hydraulic issues related to performance, overheating, durability etc.13.Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and global engineering teams.14.Participate in DFMEA, cost-reduction, localization, and continuous improvement initiatives.15.Provide technical training and knowledge support to sales, service teams, and customers.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES :
•Deliver optimized hydraulic system solutions that meet OEM performance, reliability, and cost targets.•Ensure technical accuracy and completeness of hydraulic designs, calculations, schematics, and BOMs.•Drive OEM design wins by influencing machine architecture toward Parker system solutions.•Support timely and competitive RFQ responses with technically sound and differentiated proposals.•Achieve right-first-time application delivery through effective validation, testing, and risk mitigation.•Resolve field and customer issues efficiently using structured root-cause analysis and corrective actions.•Optimize system efficiency and total cost of ownership through value engineering and design improvements.•Collaborate effectively across functions and regions to ensure alignment with Parker standards and processes.•Maintain compliance with Parker, OEM, ISO, and SAE standards in all application engineering activities.•Build and sustain technical credibility with customers through professional engagement, training, and support.
•Decide on hydraulic system architecture (open center, closed center, load sensing, electro-hydraulic) within approved Parker guidelines.•Approve selection and sizing of Parker hydraulic components to meet application requirements and standards.•Determine technical feasibility and risk level of customer applications during RFQ and concept stages.•Decide on system optimization approaches to improve efficiency, controllability, and reliability.•Approve hydraulic schematics, calculations, and application documentation before customer release.•Decide on prototype configuration and test parameters for system validation and machine trials.•Recommend design changes or corrective actions based on test results and field feedback.•Decide on trade-offs between performance, cost, and standardization within defined authority limits.•Escalate and recommend high-risk or non-standard applications for management or global engineering review.
Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent (Hydraulics specialization preferred).2. 10–15 years of relevant experience in Mobile machinery or off-highway equipment applications along with experience in design and selection of hydraulic components3. Strong understanding of mobile hydraulic system architectures4. Hands-on experience in selection and sizing of hydraulic pumps, motors, valves, and cylinders.5. Knowledge of electro-hydraulics, proportional valves, and electronic controls.6. Ability to perform hydraulic calculations for flow, pressure, power, efficiency, etc.7. Proficiency in reading, creating, and reviewing hydraulic schematics and circuit diagrams.8. Familiarity with ISO, SAE, and OEM hydraulic standards and specifications.9. Experience supporting RFQs, application proposals, and customer design reviews.10. Ability to troubleshoot and resolve field issues related to hydraulic performance and reliability.11. Strong customer-facing skills with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly.12. Experience working in cross-functional and matrix organizational structures.13. Willingness and ability to travel to customer sites, test locations, and manufacturing plants.
